The Narnia program offers the Catholic child a complete education in the faith. It is important that children attend each year in order to have all the essentials of Catholicism.
Classes for Grades 1-7 and the teen Socratic Circle are formed in small groups and hosted by parents. The Atrium program (for children age 3-5 and Pre-K) is held on site at the Narnia Office.
All classes start in the Fall and meet on a weekly basis.
I - Atrium Program (3-5 years old)
Atrium (3 – 6): Atrium classes use the Montessori method in a prepared environment to introduce each child to the basics of the Christian faith according to his or her individual needs and curiosity.
II - First Communion Preparation (1st and 2nd grade) - 2 years required
The Archdiocese of New York requires that students receive a minimum of two years of preparation for reception of First Holy Communion. Narnia students start the process of First Communion preparation in first grade and receive First Penance and First Communion in the Spring of second grade.
First Grade Topics:
Human persons made in the image of God, the life and presence of Jesus, the importance of prayer, distinguishing right from wrong
Second Grade Topics:
Particular focus on preparing for reception of First Penance and First Communion, the meaning of the Mass
III - Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade Religious Education
Third Grade Topics:
The Works of Mercy and God’s plan of salvation from creation through the Incarnation to the birth of the Church at Pentecost
Fourth Grade Topics:
Exploring the stories of the Old Testament and seeing the New Covenant as the fulfillment of the Old
Fifth Grade Topics:
The New Testament, the Creed and saints
IV - Confirmation Preparation (6th and 7th grade) - 2 years required
The Archdiocese of New York requires that students receive a minimum of two years of preparation for reception of Confirmation. Students who join in later grades must complete the two years of Confirmation Prep before being confirmed, regardless of age.
Sixth Grade/Confirmation Prep I Topics:
The sacraments, prayer, the economy of grace, the Eucharist, Mary, the Ten Commandments, the virtues, the importance of leading an ethical life
Seventh Grade/Confirmation Prep II Topics:
Preparation for the reception of sacrament of Confirmation, including apostolic and social tasks of the Catholic in the world, in accordance with the documents of Vatican II
V - Socratic Circle (Grade 8 and above)
Teen Narnia: Those in grades eight and above who have completed Confirmation are invited to join our Socractic Circle.
