Children ages 3 to 5 begin in Narnia’s extraordinarily successful Atrium. These classes use the Montessori Method to introduce small children to the faith. By working with concrete materials in a very serene atmosphere, the children enjoy and meditate on scenes from the life of Christ and the parables. They also learn with enthusiasm the essentials of the Liturgy, which help them to understand and appreciate the Holy Mass.
The Narnia Clubs’ Atrium Program is based on the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, an approach to the religious formation of children which was initiated in 1954 by Dr. Sofia Cavaletti when she founded the Children’s Centre or “Atrium” in Rome, Italy. The curriculum is constructed so that it nurtures the child’s moral and psychological growth.
Themes are offered in such a way as to develop the precious religious potential present in every child: the capacity to love and to be loved. The 3- to 6-year-old child is particularly capable of receiving and enjoying the most essential elements of our Faith. At the heart of this is the announcement of God’s love in the person of the Good Shepherd, who died and is risen and who is present in the Eucharist.
